So when is Sega going to get off its♥♥♥♥♥and do a proper modern remake of the Phantasy Star series? I know, never. But still.i would kill for some decent modern Phantasy Star games that lack all the modern BS that a lot of RPG's have (like active combat systems) I could tell that for whatever reason, with PSO and 2 that sega has zero interest in money, not even sure id be into the modern versions tbh.just want PS1/2/3/4 (maybe 4 i felt 4 was too short) with modern graphics and whatnot.
Felt with the announcement of ff7 getting a full rework perhaps sega would realize they too have a beloved RPG IP that theyve ignored (SE didnt ignore their FF ip and im jelous that both companies cant love their RPG IP's) I know no one at sega would ever bother to look at these forums. Just sort of one of those things where i weep for good IP's sitting in the hands of people who refuse to embrace them. Originally posted by:Phantasy Star Generations I and II, you said it. Buy em up, apply the fan English patch and play. Do they even sell that for PC?
Im really not interested in buying a phsysical import CD for PS2 then buying a PS2 to play it. The fact that they did a remake, didnt offer it to the market i play in, and requires a translation patch for the ROM speaks enough.Sega doesnt deserve that IP if you ask me. Also i was suggesting a modern remake if you bothered to read my post. Which i know, wont ever happen. Originally posted by:You would need to buy the JPN PS2 game, make an ISO of it on PC, apply the English patch, then play it on any modded PS2 or on PCxs2. See im not looking to do that.
TBH id rather just get the ROM, though im kinda against that. Part of the complaint was the SEGA was mismanaging a great IP.part of that is not having their great games avalible to buy, especially in the NA market. Im sure as hell not going to pay $40 for an imported PS2 game, that then requires me to make an ISO out of it, rom it, then apply a translation patch. Im sorry thats money they dont deserve. For all the effort Sega puts into reinventing the wheel with sonic.i really wish they would do some actual remakes of this IP, at the least give us a proper way to buy the old remakes they did here on steam. Im not against paying properly for an actual remake, nor buying the older remakes they already did.but im not paying them to do all that BS to be able to play it, and im really not into romming games anymore since things like steam have made it possible to offer the games without having to do such stuff. Ugh but.playing FF7 here on steam has made me itch hard for Phantasy Star 2.so maybe ill hunt down a ROM.while the older FF games had the better story, the PS games had the better mechanics imo.

The one for PS Gen however, worked well for me running it on PCSX2 I haven't really played very far into it. Just like in the first game, I got one shot by the very first fly I met a few times before managing to survive a fight and calling that a victory.
Did some hard research on it. The first gnerations is translated, youll need to buy a chipped PS2 then burn the game to an ISO, with the modded translations.for the second generations theres a multi step process that looks incredibly irritating to do this. That said, youll still need a PS2 with a hacked chip in it, as far as i can tell no PC rom works, and the PS2 emulator programs dont have either game listed as compatable, probably because the translation needed to run it might not work with said emulators.
Either way, this is a total pain. Might just have to come to the realization that ill need to like final fantasy more, despite i find its actual gameplay lesser and less complex.because SE actually takes care of their IP while sega doesnt seem interested in making money off Phantasy Star.

Did you get the rom from phantasycove or whatever? Its so hard to tell what you are downloading on these ancient ROM sites. Originally posted by:I did some digging about a ROM & patch for the game but it sounds like a real hassle. I might try a buy a ps2 & the copy of the game when I go to Japan, I'm sure some store sells older gaming consoles/games somewhere.
I got it to work, but only for Generations 1 the remake of the frist phantasy star, second isnt done being translated by the fan who did the first one.seems like the lady doing the translations has been working on it for like 5 years which is crazy. The only issue is that youll need to get a japanese console bios for the emulator through like piratesbay to run the game, took a bit of effort, and had to tweak the emulator (dont use AA filtering btw) But it works, and man, its a fantasic remake, sad they never bothered to sell it outside of japan, and the translation work done by the fan site is fantastic.
Really hope they get generations 2 done soon, phantasy star 2 was my favorite. Youll need to pick up the translated.iso from phantasy star cave, they have a link to the emulator, its on you to locate the bios though. Theres a few youtube videos on how to use the specifc emulator. I can understand Japanese so the language barrier isn't a problem for me, just finding a PS2 & the game will be the tricky part. I wish Sega would release the Phantasy Star series outisde of Japan,my favourite was the 4th one, then the 2nd took me ages to finally beat Dark Force in that one.
3rd game wasn't bad but it felt kind of average compared to the others, I remember it got labeled as the black sheep of the series by fans. I remember Shining Force never completed it though, I think it was given a remake or remaster for the GBA & re-released on various platforms. You have to download the pcsx2 emulator, get a bios from piratesbay, then download the ROM for the game.OR.you can buy a ps2 with a hacked chip OR a ps2 from japan, then import the game for $50 you decide what is the most logical path for you.
