PlayStation® Portable (Photo credit: @kevinv033) While the does have it’s fair share of decent games there comes a time where one would like to play some of the more traditional games on the go. Thanks to custom Firmware, and the guys who have developed all these amazing emulators, one can now do this with the ease. This is a very basic guide for beginners to be able to install custom firmware on their PSP E1004 ( Street), download and install the right emulator and of course copying and playing your games. The CF ( custom firmware) that i have chosen to install is one I know that works perfectly with the E1004 and to this day have seen no reason to change it.

The same applies to the SNES ( ) emulator that I am currently using. At the end of each section I have added a video as well so you can see what I’ve done. Hey David, Thanks for the question. As with any handheld or console, if you decide you would like to get these types of unlicensed software that isn’t supported by the manufacturer, there is always going to be a risk of crashing, or “bricking” your PSP. Unfortunately, it comes with the territory. The part where you need to use the PRO PSP FIRMWARE FAST RECOVERY after your PSP has been turned off is because when the PSP starts up, it loads up the Sony default configuration, so when you run that FAST RECOVERY it reboots your PSP using the Hacked software allowing you to play SNES games, etc, etc.

Keep in mind, that this guide was written specifically for the PSP E1004 so I’m not sure if this method would work on your older PSP. But, there are plenty of mods out there for specific model types for PSP that you can find if you look around on Google. Luckily for me, I haven’t had a single issue using this method and to be honest the PSP E1004 is the easiest to Hack and I’ve screwed around with it heavily and never bricked it. Maybe I’ve been lucky, that is completely possible but I’ve played many games, read comic books and Ebooks thanks to these specific mods I’ve mentioned in the guide. If you need any more help, feel free to leave more comments and thanks again. Sorry for the long reply.

Hi Chris, thanks for the comment. You won’t have to patch any ISO’s, at least I’ve never had to. Your saves will work as they normaly would, saving to the memory card as per norm.

You seem braver than me if you flashed a Wii and a 360, lol To be honest with you, I can’t recommend all that many games. The ones That I did play were awfully shitty although I can recommend any Grand Theft Auto Game and God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta. If you enjoyed the Metal Gear Solid series I also recommend PeaceWalker. It was exclusive to the PSP and servers as a critical bridge to the new MGS5 game. Oh and for lighthearted fun with cool tunes, I can also recommend Guitar Hero. Let me know how it goes 🙂.

I LOVE MGS games but ive done them all on the ps1/2/3 and peace walker HD on the 360. Im sooo pumped to get MGSGZ (shame its only 2 hours) and MGS5 on my ps4 Ive downloaded both the God Of War games ready and GTA China Town Wars (done Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories on my ps2 back in the day) Ive also downloaded Gran Turismo, Silent Hill Shattered Memories, Splinter Cell Essentials, Tenchu 4, Assassins Creed Bloodline and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep my main reason for getting a psp is i got myself a ps vita just before Xmas and there are hardly any games for it!

Satellite

Psp has a HUGE library of games even if most of them look like ass. That don’t bother me much since i was around when the NES was king lol (32 feeling old) but im sure only having one stick will take a lot of getting used to how are you finding the E1000 compared to the other models of the psp screen etc? Thank you so much for all your help with the guide without people like you taking the time to write them i wouldn’t be able to be brave in the first place! I pick up my E1000 in 2hours!!!!!!

🙂 you have made my week (best and most simple guide to follow out there and i looked at a lot before finding yours). That’s quite a few compliments:-) I appreciate the kind words. I hate looking for guides and prefer step by step guides myself.

Totally forgot about ac bloodlines and the other games you mentioned I haven’t played. I got distracted with my back log for ps3.:-) while on AC I can’t remember if the ISO worked. I bought the original because the ISO wasn’t patched properly I think. No matter how many versions I downloaded it didn’t work so I decided to buy it instead. I never actually played on the older ones but I remember seeing one where the screen was quite sharp.

I work with a very talented team over there to bring news, reviews an editorials and such. Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you Ryan your guide worked a treat! I thought you might like to know that you can find a working copy of Assassins Creed Bloodlines at (i tried it and the ISO file works for me) the screen on the E1000 is shocking lol but i guess that’s to be expected coming from the amazing OLED on the vita also the UMD door is very weak feeling but im not going to be using that and you cant really bitch for only £65 so its not a problem 🙂 i will join your site once Ive got some sleep its 3pm in the UK and Ive been up all night red bull and Nirvana is the only thing keeping me alive right now lol.
